FAQ's

1. What grade levels is this basketball unit suitable for?

It's designed for grades 3 and up, but still perfectly suitable and adaptable for younger grades too.

2. As a teacher I can't do the skills myself, is that still ok?

Of course! This is why the unit is here to take you through step by step of what to say, and get the students to demonstrate. There's also demonstrational videos to show you exactly how the skills should be performed, and what to look out for.

3. Can these lessons be taught if my students have never played before?

Yes. Students are introduced to the fundamental skills step by step through a structured sequence of lessons, games, and activities. The progressive approach helps build confidence and competence, allowing students to develop their skills before applying them in modified games and match play.

4. Is the assessment rubric included?

Yes, there's a clear breakdown of each of the fundamental skills and how to assess them.

5. What makes this basketball unit different from other free lesson plans online?

Online drills are often very complex, and expect the coach to have previous experience and knowledge of basketball. We've laid it out step by step you, regardless of experience, to 'print and teach'.

We used these to organize our PE stations. I made a gym map and assigned one station to each student group for set-up and clean-up. They also had to demonstrate how to do the station to the whole class. They loved it! Our bball unit was a breeze for me, and the students enjoyed the activities.

As a teacher with a limited background teaching sports (especially basketball), I purchased this resource with the hope of learning the correct terms and new drills for my Grade 4 students to practice with. The students loved the drills and caught on quickly. From the teacher's perspective, the resource includes clear explanations, easy printable pages, and great tips for teaching skills.

My kid roped me (a science teacher...who does NOT run) into volunteering to be a basketball coach and when the head coach had to pull out, I was left to figure out how to teach the kids basketball! This lesson plan helped me plan out these practices with the kids which they loved and had a great time!

Easy to implement

These were awesome to incorporate into our PE curriculum. I printed each page to keep in a binder. The activities have been easy to explain with the directions provided and I appreciate the graphics to coordinate. As a non-athletic teacher, this resource made it super easy!
